87 Corvette Headlight problem opening/closing

This 87 has a problem . Sometime headlights don't open. Sometime don't close. It's a crap shoot. Sporatic situations like this are hard to nail down. If anyone has had this happen I sure would like to know how Ya fixed it.

the most common problem is that the plastic gears that rotate the headlight assembly crack. Ecklers has replacement gear kits to repair the problem
