Its about time for me to replace spark plugs and it looks like it can be a challenge. Can I get to all of them without dismantling something or using special tools.

It's not too bad. Just take off the covers between the wheels and motor. Maybe ~ 20 screws on both sides, but they are really easy to take on and off. If you try to do it from above, well good luck with a lot of cussing and mangled hands - it can't be done (unless you have a custom set of tools). Bite the bullet, take the covers off.
While you're at it, replace anything else while the covers are off.

Is there a way to remove the spark plugs without taking off the covers? I mean, I don't mind getting my hands dirty and all. I was just wondering if there is an easier way.

If it is any thing like the l98 the #8 plug fronnt right is a major pain because of the angle. I have tried all specialty tools and had to remove entire front right wheel well to get close. Even then I had to fabricate a plug holder with a stiff 3/8 hose and be very caareful not to strip plug hole on head. Remember the head is aluminum and plug thread is usually stainless much harder and easy to strip thread on head, leading to big problems.
