I have a 76 with # matching block but has edelbrock heads, intake, carb and air cleaner, but the air cleaner rubs the underside of the hood.Does anybody know if the factory gm air cleaner assembly will fit without rubbing? Also the hood blanket has already been removed for clearance.

I too would appreciate some insight regarding air cleaner clearance. I have a 72 stingray with an edelbrock intake and carb and clearance is an issue.
My sort term solution was to use an edelbrock cleaner base, a K&N short air cleaner element and a K&N style air cleaner box top that allows additional air flow.
My preference would be to find a lower profile air cleaner base that allows room for the carb components, a taller air cleaner element and the chrome air cleaner top.
Thoughts?

On my '81 we replaced the L81 with a GMPP 350 HO and had the same problem. Our solution was to replace the lid with one from a relatively same vintage Firebird. The Firebird lid fit quite well and does not sit quite as high - perhaps 1/2" shorter. The downside is that it is black and not chrome.
