I am looking to replace the rear and quarter windows on my 60 hardtop. The windows in there now are very checked. I am hoping to do this myself if I could find someone who could coach me through it. I think of myself as very handy and not afraid to try something like this myself. However, I have heard from several people not to take on this task.....it can be a nightmare. My question to anyone with experience in this is......Where does the problems lie with the installation? Where can I purchase a kit with correct hardware such as clips, retainers, barrell nut etc.?, Is there a dealer out there that may sell the kit and do they also have instructions with the kit? Last but not least....how much does one of these kits cost? I am very anxious to get started on this, but I would hate to open up a can of worms and find out that I am not capable of this task. Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Jay

You may be able to find someone that can coach you. I live in the SF Bay Area and know a guy who would do that. He looked at my 1960 hardtop and told me the rear window was not installed properly. It bulges out. He told me it was because the installer did not trim the rear window to fit. He makes a template of the existing window and transfers that to the new window. They also used small bolts instead of rivets to connect the lower trim to the window. Corvette Stop would be a good source of parts and information.

I have done a 62 and a 60 hard top. If you take your time and trim the new rear glass using the old one as a pattern, it's not that hard to do, The problem most people have when installing new glass is it's just to big and they just keep trying to install some thing that wont fit, It will just keep popping out of the seal when you think your all most done. Be careful not to trim to much off the new glass and you should be able to do this in 5-6 hours if it's your first time. David Steele
