I have a 1982 Corvette.  The low fuel indicator light stays on all the time.  The fuel gauge works.  I need to know how to troubleshoot the indicator light.

It maybe time to replace the wiring flex board behind the gages. Because the lights that twist in, on the board ware and just ground to the Metal frame.
I've replaced several and before reassembly put heavy plastic tap behind each light opening to syop grounding problems

Thanks, I did that but it didn't change anything.  I'm wondering if there is something in the gas tank that is malfunctioning.

It is easy to trouble shoot. Take the board out of the dash. There are three terminals on the bulb socket. With the board sitting on table bulb side up, angled side to the right. The terminal at 9 o clock is +12v,
6 o clock is from the sending unit(0-90 ohms), 3 o clock is ground.
Apply power and ground to the bulb terminals.
The bulb should not light.

If that worked right:

Now also ground the sending unit terminal.
This simulates the fuel tank being low.
The bulb should light after about 10 seconds.

If it dosn't work right it may have bad transistors.
Replace both with a NTE159 transistor.

if you don't have a bulb socket for the low fuel indicator light... whats holding the bulb????

i realize that you are thinking it is a tool...

nope.. the bulb socket is also the bulb holder...  little plastic thing that holds the bulb and turns slightly to lock into the back of the cluster circuit board..

you do have to take out the gauge cluster from the middle of the dash.. where the low fuel warning light is...  to access it...

the NTE159 transistor is available at almost every electronics store... nte is a japaneese company  that supplys standard electronic parts worldwide...

if it bothers you just take the bulb out...

autozone.com has some free repair info for various vettes...  i don't know if you can access it from europe...  you can try...  it is not as good as having a factory service manual.. but .. it helps...

if you can get a replacement transistor... and can get the bulb holder out of that location.. some radio or computer repair guy with a soldering pencil can change it...

if you don't have a bulb holder ..... how can your low fuel light be on???????

the bulb holder for that location has 3 terminals... and is not available... if you don't have the original bulb holder... did it get installed in another hole in the dash...

just leave it out....    and the transistor is installed in the SPECIAL bulb holder...

which is not available ...
