I have a 86 Vette with a 6-speed ZF Tranny. The motor has reached its age of retirement and I am considering a replacement. In view of high gas prices and I have reached the age where speed doesn't matter, I am wondering how hard it would be to put a 3.8 Camaro motor and automatic or 5 speed stick in the Vette chassis.
Several years ago, I recall someone put in a turbocharged Buick V6 in a C-4 Body. I am interested in what parts might bolt in and what has to be fabricated to fit.
Any help would be appreciated...

Don't put a V6 in a CORVETTE! Not only will it destroy the performance on the car, but it will make it IMPOSSIBLE to sell later on. As it sits, even needing an engine, you could get decent money for it. If you're bound and determined to get a V6, just sell the 'Vette and buy a 3.8L V6 Camaro or Firebird. But for the sake of the car, pleeeease don't desicrate it with a V6.

Used LT-1 engines can be found and would be a much easier replacement. Gas mileage with your proposed plan would go down. Plus, why convert a Corvette backwards into a "kit" car. You already have the base car with a great trans. Only my opinion, but you should rethink this plan.
