I have 79 c-3 the inner yokes have bolt going all the way through the yoke caps with nuts on the inner side and I am on my way out to check if the threads in the yoke are stripped out or what the deal is. I know this isn't normal the bolt are rubbing on the rearend housing and Iam wondering how much in and out movement threre should be on those inner yokes and if the nuts on the cap bolts are normal or not any help is greatly appreicated. thanks TIM

Hello. Your stub axles are worn out. The rear tires are tilt in at the top also? Yes. The stub axles Carey all the weight of the car pushing in on the center spiter gear cross pin. As the axle wear they move in to the point that they will rub on the rear end housing like yours are. You must replace the axles now. At this point the snap rings holding the axles in the housing have came off and are floating around in the gear oil just waiting to get between the rear gear set. This will be bad. This is a common problem on C2/C3 Corvettes. David Steele

Thank you for your reply. I have noticed that the shaft ends have a minimal bit of mushroom on the ends. I figured those shaft ends would be made stronger and I didn't realize they carry all the weight. I have heard many thoughts on my problem and yours accually makes sense. I just about all the other replys are commonsense that I've already checked out. Thanks Tim
