I just purchased a 1999 C5 coupe. AFter having it for a couple of weeks I started having an issue with the vehicle not starting. I turn the key and nothing happens but if I wait a few minutes it will start without an issue. I think it has something to do with the security system. Since I purchased it the key fob hasn't worked. When I reprogrammed the fob it would lock / unlock the doors but after a few minutes it wouldn't work again. Anyone have this problem before?? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Mark

the resistor in the key needs to make constant contact in the lock cylinder as it rotates ...   if not... it locks you out of the system for 4 minutes...

spray the ignition lock with some wd 40... work the key in and out... turn the key on and off...  a bunch of times...

corrosion gets in the lock.   messing up the contacts...   bet it started happening just after you got caught in a rain storm... and your keys got wet... then you put it in the lock... still dripping with water...

your ignition lock might also be wearing out inside..

go buy a new ignition lock cylinder.. it comes with 1 plain key....  take that and your existing key to a key shop... have them figure out which blank it takes.. one of 15.. resistance value is what needs to be matched...

then you can take the new key and lock cylinder to almost any professional mechanic and get it installed... without having to go through hoops...

its really not that hard a job if you have done lock cylinder changes before.. but this one has an air bag in the steering wheel  and you have to do a lot of wire pulling in and out of the column to get it done...

it does require a few specialized tools that are  easily available... and   prior experience

send a PM ... if you need more info.. i don't get on this forum often.. but i do see pm's..
