my car cranks over but will not start this doesn't always happen it seems to happen more in hot weather even when the engine is not hot. i have a mechanic looking into it, they tested the coil and it was good the computer looks good did a tune up the fuel pressure is good. this is confusing it will crank and crank and not catch.

without car info... this cannot be properly answered..

year, make model engine size and fuel system type...   feed back carb,  TBI, TPI, SFI, vortec, direct injection...

coil test have to be done with not just a light.. but seeing how far the spark can jump...  most electronic ignitions need to be able to throw a 3/4" spark that is bright blue...

if it will only throw a 1/4"  orange spark.. it will not start a car most of the time...

coils do break down internally where you cannot see it or test for it with a volt meter.. only a arc test...

they can also leak externally ... look for white powder around the core next to the square frame of the coil..  circles or half circles indicate a high voltage leak...
i know of one tech who keeps a squirt bottle of salty water on his tool box.. he sprays the coils with it...   it the engine dies when he squirts the coil.. its bad...

salt water is conductive..    distilled water is not conductive most of the time...
