I have a '78 with the original motor. I want a little more horsepower (of course). I like the ease of a crate motor (time to spend on the project is an issue), but don't want to devalue the car by removing the original block and heads. How important is it to keep these items original? Comments? Thoughts?

if you have the original motor.. and order a crate motor... you can always store the original motor in the crate box... keeping the numbers matching stuff is important.. but on a 78??? is it a special edition???? really clean... some rare model?? having the original stuff to go with the car always makes it worth more at sale time... just be sure to store it with the cylinders filled with oil... prevent rust... and don't store it outside...

It is the silver anniv. special... two tone silver w/ red int. It has 60K miles and is pretty clean. Im am going to re-do the carpet and seats, leave the original paint (there is the typical cracking at the tip of the rubber nose). So for the motor. I really just would like to have something around 300-350 h/p. Nothing too drastic. If I do go with a crate, any suggestions on who sells a good motor? How important is it to go to GM?
