sounds like a bad ground....     got some extra stranded wire ...  strip back several inches...  wrap it around the base of the bulb.. right where the glass meets the shell...  reinstall the bulb in the socket... run the other end of the wire to a ground...  the exhaust pipe might ***   see if the bulb works properly with the additional ground...

if so....   there is usually room to thread the additional wire through the socket... then over to where the bulbs are grounded...   or you can possibly change the socket...

remember... ben franklin got it wrong..    electrons flow from negative to positive..

so the electrons are in the chassis..... no ground.. no power...

most things electric... really don't work with only one side connected...

what messes with peoples minds are 1157 bulbs...   the ground is shared with both filaments in the bulb...  so if the ground is lost...  the circuit will try to connect through the tail light circuit through another bulb somewhere in the system.. usually the other side...

when a front turn signal ground is lost..  when the head lights are turned on.. one of the turn signal indicators will come on without flashing..  but will work properly when the turn signal is operated...
