gm has always had primary and secondary keys since the early 30's...

same as what you have on your ring...

i think the ignition being different from the door key took affect in 69 or in the early 70's when they went to an ignition only primary key...

usually with a different keyway for the door locks...  they repeated the keyway pattern every 4 years...

trying to reduce the amount of try out keys...    there were sets of about 103 keys... that could when properly jiggled into the lock.. open 95% of gm locks..

made it really easy to steal a car...  i even ended up with a set one day when a car thief dropped his set as the cops were after him...    he threw them toward a storm drain opening.. but i got them first...  mom took them.. i don't know what ever happened to them...

when gm went to the dual system.. they also included one more cut..  well actually added one tumbler...   without a cut... it lined up with the top of the key blank...

here is a link to a pdf file for the 62 to 67 door lock catalog.. in pdf form

http://aftermarket.strattec.com/pdf/catalogs/historical/Briggs%20&%20Stratton%201962%20-%201967.pdf

i bet nobody here has that one yet.... it's 95 pages long and covers many cars...   some of the stuff is still available...

who ever scanned it... did a poor job.. not enough detail...  so don't be upset...  you can read most of the part numbers...
