First post guys, I hope someone can give me a little advice. I have a 99 Corvette automatic with 105 on the miles, I've only had it maybe 6-8 months. Never had any problems with my transmission. Two weeks ago I was coasting to a red light with it in neutral, I dropped it into drive and I continued to coast through the intersection. NO DRIVE!
All I have is reverse! I dropped the trans pan, changed the filter, and added fluids. The old trans fluid seemed fine, I didn't have any leaks prior to this, no issues. If I start the car now, the "steering wheel lock" light will come on but my wheel isn't locked. I put in into gear and my RPMs will rise like it wants to go into gear and I also checked the linkege, it seems fine. What next? Any advice? Getting tired of driving in reverse.
were you actually putting the shifter in neutral while coasting..
dropping it back into gear in my opinion as a sometimes transrebuilder.. is going to be really really hard on the internals...
your transmission is also computer controlled... so you have to plug in a scan tool... scan it for codes... before anything is done..
was there any debris in the bottom of the pan??????? fiberous.. steel bits.. brass bits.. aluminum bits..
i am in NO way a transmission professional... who knows fluid flow i spend my live under the hood and around the brakes and suspension.. but i know enough to be dangerous...
there is also a possibility that you may have stuck a valve in the valve body when you did that.. or in the front pump... or broken something ....
i guess that the license plate frame mounted back up camera and dash board monitor comes in handy for going backwards at speed... ;-) sort of like a UAV the air force flys.. but the controls are reversed..
its not impossible for automatic transmissions to break.. it happens every day..
scan for codes first... and one thing.. does it move forward when you drop it in second gear or low gear??????
warning.. not all scan tools will pick up transmission codes... and do not erase them... until you talk to a drivability or transmission mechanic.. when codes set.. the computer stores data about what the car was doing when the code set.. makes it really easy to understand what was happening when the code set...

Thanks for the reply! There was no debris in the pan. If I drop it in low gear, you can feel it engage and it moves slightly. Before dropping the pain and changing the filter, it wouldn't do anything.
