I recently bought a 93 that the original owner lost the key to. I had a new one made by a locksmith and it would roll over but not start. I replaced the coil and ignition module, now it will start and die, I believe it is a fuel problem because if I continuosly pump the pedal it will run. Any ideas where to go next, fuel pump, filter, maybe a sensor?

first .. click on the ACTIVE POSTS link above left..

look in the first few pages about OBD1 scan tools for C4 corvettes...

you will need to extract codes.. and thats cheep and easy to do with just a short piece of wire... but to diagnose the system.. other than testing each device with a digital volt meter..

if you have a fully electronic heater and AC control..

with the key in the ON position..     push and hold the OFF and the warmer button at the same time for 5 seconds or so.. you know this is going to work if the dash lights ALL COME ON...

caddys have had this feature since 82... if this works.. you may not need a scan tool...

if the VATS System is not liking the resistor key you have had created..  it will start and die...  and it will flash the security light on the dash board.. it will also set a code. that will only stay for 4 minutes..

fuel injection pressure tester is a good thing to ***

there is a fuel filter under the car..

the fuel pump on a C4 can be changed through the filler lid area in under an hour with minimal tools..   do plan ahead..

order the mounting gasket.. it is rectangular and has a bunch of bolt holes..     the pump and the strainer come separate..

you should also    toss a  magnet into the tank.. either left or right when you have the fuel sending unit out.. i use rare earth magnets.. these grab any rust that can get into the system from various sources like gas stations..  it will save you in fuel filters for years..  also your fuel pumps will last a LOT longer..

93 models are LT1 versions with Optispark...  and there were external issues with the adaptor harness from the optispark to the flat connector on the harness.. where the adaptor harness terminals would turn green from corrosion...

coolant temp sensors and their pigtails have also been known to go bad...  one forum member did not replace his.. or verify it was working with a scan tool.. changed tons of parts and still hard starting and dying when it warmed up..  coolant temp sensors with a new pigtail can be had for under 20 bucks if you know what part number to ask for at local AZ stores..   because of the location sticking out the front of the manifold.. there is a lot of wind buffeting that takes it toll on the pigtail..

cheep things first... off and warmer buttons.. some times its off and an up arrow...

or find this connector under the drivers side dash...

use a short wire or paper clip to jump the A and B terminals.. then turn the key on and count the flashes of the check engine light...   code 12   three times... is expected... post what you get..
